Healing the
past, building the future caught my attention upon watching the documentary
film. It was a striking phrase that surely held the thought and idea of the
film is trying to portray. The topic that was centered in the theme points out
the root and vital element of such predicament we are in here in Mindanao in
the context of peace. Almost a decade, many lives suffered and sacrificed,
bundles of money left to garbage, trucks of arms and weapons destroyed and
several peace talks initiative happened. Then, still peace is an open ended
struggle.
According to
some historians, there was a history of conflict. This is a conflict between
Christians and Muslims. This was before. This is the challenge to all of us. If
we want peace, then, we must work for it. It is not just a word to utter or
spell but values to live with. Past is past. A text message I read, “Past is
experience, present is experiment and future is expectation. Use your
experience in your experiments to achieve your expectations”. In building the
culture of peace, we should start today for the future. It is also important to
heal the past, to learn from it and realize something about it. Acceptance of
what we had in the past and work hard to go with the peace in the present for a
better future. It is a matter of changing our attitudes and dispositions in
life. Let us avoid prejudices and biases among various cultures. In the way of
healing the past, rest assured that we can build a culture of peace, living the
vision, living the dream.
There can be
peace in Mindanao.
