Be Rational...

Being wise is better than being strong; yes, knowledge is more important that strength. After all, you must make careful plans before you fight a battle and the more good advice you get, the more likely you to win (Proverb 24:5-6). We should act as human being endowed by nature to live in such a way in order to win right decision and to get right formula of success. So, be rational.

Where does human life lead? A question to ponder, a guide for us in queuing our way and a gesture of finding meaning in life are concerns that make us stop, look and listen akin to the traffic light. These enable us to think and take deep reflection out of it.

As human as we are, we are pointed in certain directions, certain end, certain predicament that will satisfy our own life self toward certain purpose – our goal. Despite the interminable battle of searching and doggedly finding for the desired truth, it seems to be cunning on our part to understand our purpose. It may somehow a cause of confusions and doubts of what really kind of road we must take: a sort of decision making. Notwithstanding, the future that we live nowadays are fulfilled of different things – things that we want to possess, to experience, to do, to attain and to realize, we still focus and vehemently believe that we can achieve it for it is our own gusto. It may give us euphoria in things that lift up our spirit. These are elements of our human goal in life. The bottom-line is we want o become wiser and happier to some extent. Satisfaction? We’re very far from that! The more achievements and things happened to our life the more we become ambitious in doing more strides towards more and better. In positive sense, it really makes sense.

Happiness is the realization of our goals, our desires. These desires must be achieved through human will which obliviously piquant reference to universal appetite of good in deepest consciousness. The will that we possess must coordinate and should work hand in hand with reason. Reason is that makes us human and for him to be such is to exercise his rationality and enables him to be distinct from other lower beings such as animals and plants.

The reason is a gift. It posits us with opulent idea in decision making. It enlivens us worth plausible argument to carry out our plans and dreams. It upholds dire hubbub in the full terrain of our minds so as to wake from nasty sleep of ignorance. Using our reason, I think will surely prove our existence. It follows to live in either outback or abode realm of our essence. This reason is innate in us. We will use this considering what is reasonable for us to do in our lives.

According to Descartes, human beings would be wiser and happier if they use reason to guide and control their emotions, instincts and passions. For me, it is true. It is necessary for us to do in such away; it will guide us to more meaningful and jocund way of life. Emotions, instincts and passions are elements that commonly strive towards pleasure and away from pain. In life’s lesson, it doesn’t mean that pleasure is always rights and true, it might be a deceiver. These may eschew us to our goals of ultimate reality and lead us to uncertainty and perplexed mind set. These only provide vague and vulpine idea of what real is. We may be gullible of such deceiver. These appeal to our impolitic excuses and favorable benefits. We may feel that it is good and ideal for us as it pleases us but not to all or to others. We must not embrace this kind of condition instead we must try to scuttle and unchain ourselves from this snare. As a rational being, we have that obligation to exercise what is expected for us to be unless we are going to efface the identity of being such. That is being rational and to develop our rationality. Since rationality offers us the capacity of free decision, we have the moral obligation using our reason to make free decisions about the important choices in our lives. We must identify what should and should not applicable in certain situation and to its greater extent. Thus, it must be based on universal standard of morality where we live in for the benefits of all. We must balance the advantages and disadvantages not only mending the emotional aspect of ours. With these vehement spirit and compassionate deportment of giving great significance on the value of reason, no doubt, positive result will come albeit not just today but it will surely do tomorrow or the day after tomorrow.

As to the experience is concern, the banalization of today’s generation may seem to be prevalent. Addiction is present for it gives pleasure and enjoyment. But to what extent? Why live in moderation and be an active member of the community? Pre-marital sex is commonly resulted from sexual pleasure rather that preserving one’s virginity and taking care of the sacredness of sex. Is it lust? Politicians are mostly involved in graft and corruption for it provides them pleasure, fame, political authority and greediness of material things. But until when? Why live in public service? What makes this thing happened? Irrationality. For a person to destroy his potentialities for fuller life is absurd and crazy. They tend to become irrational.

Sometimes, we may incline to refuse the inner voice of reason behind our mind that makes us foolish and consequently drags us to the pit of errors. This must not be overwhelmed us. We must use our reason and control our emotions, instincts and passions to guide our way to wiser and happier life. The reason must entirely dominate our whole consciousness for a plausible outcome. We should be firm and hold this disposition. Use your will. Mend in reason. Thus, you will gain peace.
